Hillcrest Shows Wide Support for the Hungry
HCS high school students stop eating for 30 hours to help feed hungry kids.

Starting at 6 o’clock p.m. on Monday (date) night, many Hillcrest High school students, teachers, and staff members stopped eating. For thirty hours they went about their normal daily routine with school and sports and homework, managing only on water and fruit juice. Stomachs were growling all day long, but the students did this for a good purpose, to feed the kids who daily can not afford to eat. Eric Liebowitz, a junior at HCS, stood in front of his classmates the week before at chapel telling them about this thirty hour famine. He explained what this famine entailed that” you go without food for 30 hours, then take the money you would have spent on food, and donate it to World Vision.” Along with this many students also got sponsors to help donate even more money.

With all this money World Vision, the organization that led the famine, has connections so that the food “will go to kids all around the world,” says Eric. By raising $360 dollars, a kid can be fed for a whole year. When asking Eric about how this famine went he stated that he was “surprised by how well it went…we also raised a lot more money then I thought.” About forty high school students participated in this famine, and because of them and their sponsors, World Vision will be able to feed about 20 more hungry kids for a whole year. Without a doubt this famine helped pay for food, but “by experiencing hunger it became more personal,” said Eric. This fast brought together Hillcrest staff and students, and together they were able to help tackle a big problem that our world faces today
